Organizational and Event Planning

Reason Rally 2016, Washington DC

Team Leader, Band Search 2016. Researched and vetted potential musical acts for availability and compatibility.  Contacted management for bands on short list. Authorized offers and counter-offers in the $150,000 range.  Brokered contract that reunited members of the Wu-Tang Clan at the Lincoln Memorial for Reason Rally 2016, the first ever hip-hop group to play a national secular event.  Served as PR liaison for the group.  Publicized the event and interviewed participating group members.  Arranged travel, logistical and onstage support.

Team Leader, Rapid Response. led team that tracked and answered all incoming emails to the event website.  Ensured 24 hour minimum response time.  Created tracking spreadsheet.

Team Leader, On-site staff.  Organized team of workers assigned to various on-site and day-of duties including staffing tables for sponsors, after-parties and other peripheral events.

Mythinformation Conference 3, 2016 Co-organizer and featured speaker at featuring the long-awaited Price/Ehrman theological debate.  Assisted in all aspects of event planning including guest/speaker coordination, hotel and travel, fundraising and sponsorships, venue and catering, and reservations and sales.

Mythinformation Conference 2, 2015. Co-organizer and Master of Ceremonies for conference featuring rap star Killah Priest. Talent Wrangler and handler to Killah Priest.  Organized event pre-party featuring KP and friends freestyling. Conceptualized and hosted Blood Moon after-party.

Mythinformation Conference 1, 2015. Co-organized and presenting the keynote speech at Milwaukee’s first ever secular convention.  PR and spokesman for event, writing press releases and making a live TV appearance to announce.

KRAFt, Community Organization, Kenosha, WI

Founder/Director, 2013-present.  Founded and continue to direct local group dedicated to community action, science education and protection of the establishment clause.  Organize fundraising efforts and volunteering at community meal-share events and Adopt-A-Highway cleanups.  Organize women’s rights demonstrations, coordinate appearances in local paper.  Plan and host social events for the local skeptic community.  Create social media presence. SE Wisconsin chapter for national organization FFRF.  Investigate and expose public school district involvement in private organizations with religious agendas.  Produce educational and satirical videos, secular podcasts.

SWiFT, Community Organization, Milwaukee, WI

President 2014 -2015  Presided over unprecedented growth for the group, nearly doubling involvement through social media and live recruitment efforts. Created first-time-ever local public profile for 10-year old secular discussion group. Coordinated efforts with a leading national secular organization for a shared cost, humanist themed Christmastime billboard. Organized fundraising campaign to raise money for billboard.  Researched and contracted with local billboard company.  Publicized billboard with 4 local TV news appearances.

Social Director 2014.  Created and maintained active social media outlets for the group.  Organized monthly social events for the community. Freethought Alliance Milwaukee, Community Coalition, Milwaukee WI

Founder, 2014.  Co-founded and organized an alliance of local secular groups working toward common goals.  Recruit and help seed new member organizations.  Created and maintain active social media presence to cross-market members’ events. In May 2014, organized and spoke at debut event highlighting each of the member groups and their particular specialty.

Management Experience

Grow-Rite Landscape Management LLC,  Pleasant Prairie, WI

Production Manager, 2008-2016.  Managed all aspects of production for medium-sized landscaping firm. Responsible for oversight of 8-9 crews with a rotating staff of 25-30 crew members.  Oversaw consistent 5% annual growth during a generally recessionary period for the industry.  Handled all human resource concerns including recruiting, training, hiring, discipline, termination and personal support with English language bureaucratic concerns for a largely Hispanic workforce. Designed and presented custom safety training programs.  Responsible for project management of construction and maintenance divisions, client contact and scheduling, material needs inventory management, ordering and staging.  Handled job assignment and daily dispatching, jobsite management and quality control.  Responded to client complaints and requests.  Investigation and reporting of incidents and accidents.  Innovated mobile office system to instantly generate work orders in the field for rapid call back response.  Routinely generated revenue through upselling.  Assisted with marketing and social media efforts.  Made proper horticultural recommendations to design and.  Responded to and analyzed pest and disease conerns.

PC Miller, Lake Bluff, IL

Spanish language HR assistant, 2001-2002. Translated all corporate material and presented to Hispanic workforce of 30 laborers and foremen. Advised on content and cultural sensitivity.  Spanish language translator for HR manager. Assisted in all aspects of workforce relations including recruiting, hiring, firing, discipline, training.

Construction Management, 2001.  Managed personnel and projects of custom sustainable native landscape designs.  Supervised three crews of 3-4 members each.  Interpreted blueprints and conducted material staging.  Supported crews onsite through design detailing, quality control, and customer relations.  Responded to complaints and requests.

Maintenance Management, 2002.  Managed four maintenance crews of 3 members each. Recruited, interviewed and hired maintenance supervisor, foremen and laborers. Estimated sold and implemented custom maintenance programs. Scheduling and onsite management of three days per week of maintenance routes. Prospecting, design and sales of two days per week in extras/upgrades for all crews.  Training and safety and discipline.

City of Chicago/Dept. of Highways, Chicago, IL

Horticultural Consultant, 2000. Historic Boulevard Landscaping Program, Southside Region.  Responsible for over 30 miles of landscaped street and highway medians. Provide horticultural advice and recommendation to city planners, engineers, architects and staff.  Liaison to subcontractors hired to install and maintain approved designs.  Administration of design and maintenance contracts. Provided onsite support, quality control, inventory receipt, verification and management.  Approved and authorized contractor payouts.  Investigate random accidents and incidents. Diagnosed disease and pest infestations. Surveyed boulevards and measured site for estimating.

John Fiore & Co, Wadsworth IL

Landscape Construction Project Management, 2003. Helped create unique system of self-contained, self-reliant crews to complete a landscape installation of one or two days’ duration with no outside support, and no trips off-site. Management of prototype micro-crew which utilized specially designed trucks and other innovations to succeed.  Cost tracking and analysis of system.

Earth Resource Associates, Chicago, IL

Owner-Operator, 1996-2000. Freelance Custom Urban Horticulture Services.  Designed, installed and maintained high-end metropolitan gardens.  Responsible for all marketing, sales, design, purchasing and labor contracting for all installation and maintenance.  Popularized native plantings and sustainability in the industry.  Operated on the cutting edge of the green building revolution.  Popularized low voltage lights, drip irrigation, water features and garden art in the urban landscape.

Pizzo and Associates, Ltd., River Forest, IL

Construction Manager, 1993-1994.  Project management installations of design/build firm dedicated to native species, prairie restoration, and sustainability.  Assigned to recruit, hire, fire, train, and discipline Hispanic labor force.  Responsible for purchasing, plant locating, community outreach initiatives, trade show planning, organizing.

Maintenance Manager 1991-1992 Sold and administrated High End Residential Maintenance programs. Doubled department size in one season.  Led search for crew supervisor.

Sales Experience

Aspen Valley Landscape Supply, Park City IL

Outside Sales, 2006-2008- Account Management for Northeast Illinois and Southeast Wisconsin. Provided customer service for client base of over 400 green industry professionals and $4,000,000 in annual sales.  Outside sales and support for newest branch of established landscape supply chain.  Prospected new clients and gave sales presentations at clients’ places of business.  Provided customized quotes. Created buying consortium of four large clients for a specific commodity. Provide technical product support.  Led product training seminars. Liaison to Spanish speaking client base.  Point of Purchase design and display for wholesale outlet.  Plan and organize trade show appearances network and marketing events and holiday celebrations.

Design/Sales, 2004-2006  Designed, sold and project managed high-end residential hardscapes on the Northshore. $400,000 in annual sales and several ILCA awards. Created company newsletter.  Translated corporate material into Spanish. Implement company-wide morale events like holiday parties and employee appreciation days.  Design and organize trade show appearances.
